"Unable to Start Protection" error message appears when installing Antivirus for Mac

You receive the following error message when installing your Antivirus for Mac software:

Unable to Start Protection

"Unable to Start Protection
Your permission is required to allow Trend Micro to protect this computer.
Go to System Preferences and click Allow to enable protection."


To resolve the issue, do the following:

Restart your Mac

Do the following:

  1. On the upper right corner of your desktop, click the Apple icon
  2. Click Restart.
  3. Check if you can open Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac.

If you still cannot open the program, proceed to the next step.

Add your Antivirus for Mac to Login Items

To add Trend Micro to the login items, do the following:

  1. On your Mac, open System Preferences.

  2. Click Users & Groups.

  3. Click Login Items.

  4. Tick Trend Micro Antivirus.

    If Trend Micro Antivirus is missing, do the following:

    1. Click the + icon.

    2. Click Applications and look for the Trend Micro folder.

    3. Open the Trend Micro folder. Select Trend Micro Antivirus , then click Add.

If you still cannot open the program, proceed to the next step.

Reinstall Antivirus for Mac

If you still cannot open the program, proceed to the next step.

Allow Permission from System Preferences
  1. Open your Dock.
  2. Click the System Preferences icon and hold it.
  3. A pop-up menu appears showing you all available system preferences.
  4. Select Security & Privacy.
  5. Click the lock icon to make changes, then type your password.
  6. Click Allow beside System software from developer "Trend Micro, Inc." was blocked from loading.

    Allow

  7. Open Trend Micro Antivirus.

If you still cannot open the program, proceed to the next step.

Delete Trend Micro folders in Recovery Mode
  1. Download command.sh, then save it to /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/:

    Download command.sh

    1. After downloading the file, click Go > Go to Folder.
    2. Type /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/
    3. Save command.sh on this location.
    4. Type your Mac credentials.
  2. Boot your Mac in Recovery Mode:
    1. Restart your Mac.
    2. While restarting, press and hold the COMMAND + R keys until the Apple logo appears.
      Mac will now boot in Recovery Mode.
  3. Choose Disk Utility, then click Continue.

  4. On the left side, select your internal drive, then click Mount.

    If you see UNMOUNT, close Disk Utility, then proceed to step g.

  5. Enter your Mac password to proceed, then click Unlock.

  6. Close Disk Utility.
  7. Click Utilities, then click Terminal.

  8. Type cd ../../.., then press RETURN.
  9. Type ls, then press RETURN. You will get a result that looks like the image below:

  10. Type cd Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/, then press RETURN.
  11. Type sh command.sh, then press RETURN.
  12. Restart the computer, then open your Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac.
