Unable to stop Trend Micro program from scanning

  • Cannot stop Trend Micro from scanning

The quick or full scan of your Trend Micro program hangs or stops at a certain percentage. Nothing happens when you click Stop and you cannot close the scan window.

The issue happens when the component handling the scanning process failed or stopped working.

To resolve the issue, temporarily disable your Trend Micro program for about 30 seconds, then enable it again. Follow the steps below:

Turn off Trend Micro Using Diagnostic Tool

To disable your Trend Micro program, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
    1. Click this button below to download TrendMicroDTK.zip

      Download TrendMicroDTK.zip

    2. Open TrendMicroDTK.zip, and then click TrendMicroDTK.bat. This will open Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
    3. Click Yes when the User Account Control Window appears.

    4. On the Diagnostic Toolkit window, click the Uninstall tab, then click 5. Stop all components.

      Wait for Trend Micro's System Tray icon (near the clock at the bottom right part of the screen) to disappear.
      Once the icon disappears, Trend Micro Security software is now disabled.

Enable Trend Micro Security

To enable your Trend Micro Security program, follow the steps below:

  1. Choose how to open the program by following these steps depending on your Windows Operating System:
    Windows 10
    Windows 8.1
    Windows 7
  2. Run a scan.
