Cannot install Trend Micro Titanium because Iolo software is detected by the installer

Problem Description

This article shows you what to do when your Trend Micro Titanium installer detects the Iolo program as an incompatible software even after Iolo support has removed their program.

Solution

The Iolo software has two programs that may cause conflicts with your Trend Micro program during its installation. Choose the program that you want to uninstall:

System Mechanic Professional

  1. Close System Mechanic Professional and Iolo AntiVirus if they are running.
    Note: To close Iolo AntiVirus, right-click the system tray icon, then select Shut down Iolo AntiVirus.
  2. Go to Start > All Programs > System Mechanic Professional > Uninstall System Mechanic Professional.
  3. Follow the instructions to uninstall the program.
  4. Restart your computer when prompted after the uninstallation process.
  5. Check if you can install Trend Micro Titanium successfully.
  6. Install System Mechanic Professional without the Iolo AntiVirus component.
 
If the issue persists, delete the program’s registry entries before installing your Titanium program:
  1. Open the Registry Editor:
    Important: Editing your computer's registry can cause serious errors on your computer. Always create a backup before making any changes. If you need assistance, you can view the Help file by clicking Help > Help Topics on the Registry Editor window. You can also contact Trend Micro Technical Support.
    • For Windows XP:
      1. Go to Start > Run.
      2. Type “regedit” on the Open field, then press Enter. The Registry Editor window will open.
    • For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
      1. Click the Start button.
      2. Type “regedit” on the Start Search field, then press Enter. The Registry Editor window will open. 
  2. Go to the following registry entry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/iolo/System Mechanical Professional
  3. Right-click the System Mechanical Professional folder, then select Delete.
  4. Click Yes.
  5. Go to the following registry entry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/iolo/System Mechanic Professional
  6. Right-click the System Mechanical Professional folder, then select Delete.
  7. Click Yes.
  8. Close the Registry Editor.
  9. Go to the C:\Program Files\iolo folder.
  10. Right-click the System Mechanic Professional folder, then select Delete.
  11. Click Yes to confirm the removal.

 

System Shield / Iolo Antivirus and Antispyware

  1. Right-click the Iolo AntiVirus program system tray icon, then select Shut down Iolo AntiVirus.
  2. Go to Start > All Programs > Iolo AntiVirus > Uninstall Iolo AntiVirus.
  3. Follow the instructions to uninstall the software.
  4. Restart your computer after the uninstall has finished.
  5. Check if you can install Trend Micro Titanium successfully.

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/iolo/Iolo Antivirus and Antispyware
  3. Right-click both folders, then select Delete.
  4. Click Yes.
  5. Go to the following registry entries:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/iolo/Security Shield
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/iolo/Iolo Antivirus and Antispyware
  6. Right-click both folders, then select Delete.
  7. Click Yes.
  8. Close the Registry Editor.
  9. Go to the C:\Program Files\iolo folder.
  10. Right-click the following folders, then select Delete:
    • Security Shield folder
    • Iolo Antivirus and Antispyware folder
  11. Click Yes to confirm the removal.
