  • Titanium Maximum Security
  • Titanium Internet Security

What is Parental Controls?

The Parental Controls feature of your Titanium program allows you to do the following:
  • Specify how people use the Internet on your computer
  • Prevent specific categories of websites from being opened
  • Limit Internet access to only certain periods of the day
  • Set rules that apply to a specific account on your computer

 

Activating Parental Controls in Titanium 2013 / 2014

To enable the Parental Controls feature of your Titanium 2013/2014 program, watch a video tutorial or follow the steps below:
  1. Open the Trend Micro Titanium main console. Do any of the following:
    1. Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your desktop
    2. Double-click the Trend Micro icon in your system tray.
  2. Click the Family tab and then click Parental Controls.
  3. Click OK when the Introduction window appears.
    Note: Click Don’t show this introduction again if you don't want to see this window when you access Parental Control in the future.
  4. Create a password.
    1. Type and retype your password.
    2. Type the password hint.
    3. Type your email address.
    4. Click Create.
    Note: Password should be at least 8 characters.
    You will see the Set Up Protection for Your Family page
  5. Click Next to see the computer accounts that you want to be protected.
  6. Click the check box before the login avatar to choose the login you want to protect.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK when prompted to set the rules for the users.
  9. Set the Parental Controls according to the following:
    • Website Filter
      The Parental Controls feature lets you filter different categories of websites based on the following age groups:
      • Child (ages 3-7 years old)
      • Pre-teen (ages 8-12 years old) 
      • Teen (ages 13-17 years old)
      • Custom
      Selecting Custom from the dropdown list allows you to pick and choose all of the categories that you would like to block.    
      Important: Multiple Windows User Accounts will have separate tabs. Make sure to edit the settings for each tab.
    • Web Access Schedule
      The Parental Controls feature allows you to schedule your kids' time on the Internet. You can set separate schedules for weekdays and weekends by clicking on the meter. The program shows how many hours of access are allotted. Highlighted hour means that web access is blocked. To edit the schedule, do either of the following:
      • Click any part of the meter to allow or block the internet access during that period.    
      • Click and drag your mouse along the meter to allow or deny internet access for a specific period.
      Important: If you have set up separate Microsoft Windows User Accounts on the computer, one tab will appear for each account. Make sure to complete this step for each child.
      If you access a blocked website or use the Internet during the period it is blocked, the Parental Controls blocking page will appear.
    • Program Controls
      Click the Add button to select a program that you don’t want your kids to use.  Set a schedule to choose when you want them blocked.
      Important: If you have set up separate Microsoft Windows User Accounts on the computer, one tab will appear for each account. Make sure to complete this step for each child.
    A summary of the settings and schedule for website filter and web access schedule will be displayed.
  10. Click Done.
  11. Click OK when the Parental Controls window appears.
    Note: You can make changes to the settings that you selected at any time by clicking Family > Parental Controls on the main console. You will then be prompted to enter your password.

 

Activating Parental Controls in Titanium 2012

To configure the feature's settings, follow the steps below or watch an audio-video guide for instructions:
  1. Open the main console of your Titanium program. Do any of the following:
    1. Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your desktop.
    2. Double-click the Trend Micro icon in your system tray.
  2. Click Set up now in the Parental Controls section.

  3. Type your password, then click OK.
  4. Click OK to continue when the Introduction window appears.

    Note: Tick Don't show this introduction again if you do not want to see this window when you access this feature.
  5. Do either of the following:
    • If you have separate Microsoft Windows User Accounts: Click Do your children have their own Windows User Accounts for this computer.
      Multiple accounts
    • If you have a single account for the computer: Click Next.

    Note: You can set different rules for your kids if you create separate Windows User Accounts for them. Otherwise, the same Parental Control rules will apply to everyone using the computer.
    You will receive a notification if this is the first time you are using the Parental Controls feature.
  6. Set the Parental Controls feature according to the following:
    • Website Filter Rules
      The Parental Controls feature lets you filter different categories of websites based on the following age groups:
      • Child (ages 3-7 years old)
      • Pre-teen (ages 8-12 years old)
      • Teen (ages 13-17 years old)
      • Custom
        Select age range
      Select Custom from the dropdown list if you want to choose which categories you want to block.
      Important: Multiple Windows User Accounts will have separate tabs. Make sure to edit the settings for each tab.
    • Website Access Schedule
      The Parental Controls feature lets you schedule your kids' time on the Internet. You can set separate schedules for weekdays and weekends by clicking on the meter.
      The program shows how many hours of access are allotted.
      Web Access Schedule
      Highlighted areas mean that Internet access is blocked during that period. Unmarked areas mean that Internet access is allowed. Do either of the following to edit thee schedule:
      • Click any part of the meter to allow or deny access for a specific period
      • Click and drag the mouse along the meter to allow or deny access for a specific period
      If you access a blocked website or use the Internet during the period it is blocked, then Parental Controls feature blocking page will appear.

  7. Click Done to save your settings.
    Click Done
