“Trend Micro Titanium Already Installed” error message appears when upgrading from a lower version of Trend Micro Titanium

Problem Description

You receive the following error message when upgrading to Titanium 2013 or 2014:
Trend Micro Titanium (6.0) Already InstalledTrend Micro Titanium (7.0) Already Installed
"Trend Micro Titanium (6.0) Already Installed
Reinstalling the software will undo any custom settings that you have currently selected and remove anything you may have added to the exceptions list."
"Trend Micro Titanium 7.0 Already Installed
You must remove the version Trend Micro Titanium already installed on this computer before trying to reinstall it."

Solution

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Uninstall and reinstall Titanium

Important: You will be asked to restart the computer during the procedure. We recommend that you add this page to your favorites or print it out.
  1. Click Yes. This will uninstall the previous version of your Trend Micro program.
  2. Restart the computer when prompted.
  3. Download and install Trend Micro Titanium. Choose your program below:
Note: If the issue persists, proceed to Step 2: Run tools to uninstall and reinstall Titanium.

 

STEP 2: Run tools to uninstall and reinstall Titanium

Important: You will be asked to restart the computer during the procedure. We recommend that you add this page to your favorites or print it out.
  1. Cancel the installation.
  2. Uninstall Trend Micro Titanium by doing any of the following:
    Run the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit from the downloaded installer
    1. Open the extracted folder during the installation.
        • C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\<Trend Micro Installer Filename>
        • C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\<Trend Micro Installer Filename>
      Note: <Trend Micro Installer Filename> is the filename of the installer file that you downloaded.
    2. Double-click the Support Tool folder.
    3. Open the 32-bit or 64-bit folder depending on your system type.
    4. Double-click SupportTool.exe. This will open the Diagnostic Toolkit window.
    5. Click the (C)Uninstall tab.
    6. Click 1. Uninstall Software, then click Yes to proceed with the uninstallation.
    7. Click Restart when prompted to restart the computer.
    Run the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit from the CD
    1. Browse the CD.
    2. Double-click the Support Tool folder.
    3. Open the  32-bit or 64-bit folder depending on your system type.
    4. Double click SupportTool.exe. This will open the Diagnostic Toolkit window.
    5. Click the (C) Uninstall tab.
    6. Click 1. Uninstall Software, then click Yes to proceed with the uninstallation.
    7. Click the Restart when prompted to restart the computer.
    Run a hot fix
    1. Log onto your computer using an account with administrator privileges.
      Note: If you have installed software on the computer before, then you probably have these privileges.
    2. Download Ti_70_win_en_TMRemnantFileRemoveTool.exe and save it to your desktop.  
    3. Double-click the Ti_70_win_en_TMRemnantFileRemoveTool.exe icon to run it.
    4. Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.
    5. Read and accept the License Agreement, then click Next.
    6. Click Install.
    7. Click OK when a warning window opens.
    8. Restart the computer.
  3. Download and install Titanium. Choose your program below:
  4. Double-click the installer to proceed with the installation.
