Problem Description

After a successful installation on a Dell imaged machine, Windows failed to boot and the BootMGR is missing.

Solution

The Dell hidden partition is the first partition on the machine and it is also marked as the active partition.

Please do the following:

1.

Go to disk management, righ-click the C: drive and select Mark Partition as Active.

2.

Reboot the machine. You should receive BootMGR is missing.

3.

Insert a Vista install CD and select the recovery option.

4.

If you are prompted to do an auto-repair, then please do so. This does not fix the problem, but it is required if you are prompted.

5.

Select Advanced Recovery.

6.

Enter the following commands:

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /fixmbr

7.

Reboot the machine. You should now be able to boot into Vista without any issue.
