This article provides the steps on how to uninstall or remove SMEX.

Using the Windows Control Panel

You can remove SMEX using the Microsoft Windows Control Panel, but you must remove the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express separately after uninstallation. Using the Setup program to uninstall SMEX removes all the related components and programs. Trend Micro recommends using the Setup.exe program to uninstall SMEX.
  1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange and then click Remove.
  3. At the prompt, select Yes to remove SMEX.
    Note: SMES installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (X64) and they are not uninstalled when you uninstall SMEX.


Using the Enterprise solution DVD

  1. Run setup.exe from the Trend Micro Enterprise Solution DVD. Select uninstall when prompted.
    Note: If, at any time, you click Cancel from the Setup program, the program will display an "Exit Setup" dialog box. When you click Yes from this dialog box, the uninstallation aborts.
  2. The Welcome to Trend Micro ScanMail Setup screen appears. Click Nextto continue with the uninstallation.

  3. The License Agreement screen appears.
    1. Agree to the terms of the agreement by selecting I Accept the terms in the license agreement.
      If you do not accept the terms, click I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. This terminates the process without modifying your operating system.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  4. The Select an Action screen appears. Select Uninstall to remove SMEX from your server(s).

  5. The Select Target Server(s) screen appears. To uninstall SMEX from a server:
    1. Select the computers from which you want to uninstall SMEX.
      • On the Computer Name field, type the name of the server from where you want to uninstall SMEX and click Add to add the computer(s) to the list of servers.
      • Click Browse and then look for the computers that are available in your network. Double-click the domain or computer(s) that you want to add to the list.
      • Click Remove to remove a server from the list.
    2. Click Next to save your list of target server and continue the uninstallation.

  6. The Log On screen appears.
    1. Type the user name and password to log in to the target server to uninstall SMEX.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  7. The Configure Shared Directory screen appears. Use this screen to specify the shared directory for the target servers from where you will uninstall SMEX.
    1. Specify a folder on the target server for storing support files for the uninstallation process.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  8. The Checking Target System Requirements screen appears.
    1. View the screen and make sure that the settings for the uninstallation are correct.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  9. The Removal Option screen appears. Select the components to remove and then click Next.

  10. The Review Settings screen appears. Review your settings and then click Nextto begin the uninstallation process.

  11. The Uninstallation Progress screen appears. When the uninstallation is complete, click Nextto proceed.

  12. The Uninstallation Complete screen appears to inform you that the SMEX has been successfully uninstalled. Click Finish to exit the Setup program.
