Installing ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) on Exchange 2010/2007 Hub Transport and Mailbox Servers

Problem Description

This article details the procedure on how to install SMEX on Exchange 2010/2007 Hub Transport and Mailbox Servers.

Solution

  1. Select a source for the Setup program:
    Trend Micro website
    1. Download SMEX from the Trend Micro Download Center.
    2. Extract the file to a temporary directory.
    3. Run setup.exe to install SMEX.

    Insert the DVD and then follow the online instructions.
  2. The welcome screen will appear. Click Next to continue the installation.

  3. The License Agreement screen appears. Read through the screen, click I Accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next to continue.

    Note: If you do not accept the terms, click I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. This terminates the installation without modifying your operating system.
  4. The Select an Action screen appears. Select an action:
    1. Select one of the following actions:
      • Perform a fresh install
      • Upgrade a previous SMEX version
      • Uninstall current SMEX installation
    2. Click Next to continue.

  5. The Server Version Selection screen appears.
    1. Select Hub Transport / Mailbox Servers / Clustered Mailbox Servers to install SMEX with Hub Transport, Mailbox server role, or clustered mailbox server.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  6. The Select Target Server(s) screen appears. Select the computers that you want to install SMEX on.
    1. Do one of the following:
      • Type the name of the server where you want to install SMEX in the Computer name field and click Add to add the computer to the list.
      • Click Browse and look for the computers available on your network. Double-click the domain or computer(s) that you want to add to the list.
      • Click Remove to remove a server from the list.
    2. Click Next to save your list of target servers and to continue the installation.
      Note: The Setup program can install SMEX to a number of single servers or to all the computers in a domain. Use an account with the appropriate privileges to access every target server. This version of SMEX supports IPv6.

  7. The Log On screen appears.
    1. Log on to the target servers where you want to install SMEX. Use an account with Exchange Organization Administrator privileges and Local Administrator privileges for the Hub Transport or Mailbox server. Type the user name and password to log on to the target server to install SMEX.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  8. The Configure Shared/Target Directory screen appears.
    1. Type the directory share name to which the specified user has access rights or keep the default temporary shared directory, CS.
      The Setup program uses the share directory to copy temporary files during installation and is only accessible to the administrator. Type the directory path to where you will install SMEX on the target server.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  9. The Web Server Information screen appears.
    1. Select IIS Default Web Site or IIS Virtual Web Site.
    2. Type the port number to use as a listening port for this server in the Port Number field.
    3. Select the Enable SSL check box to use this feature.
    4. Click Next to continue.

  10. The Checking Target Server System Requirements screen appears. Review the settings and then click Next to continue.

    1. If this is an SCC or VERITAS cluster, click the virtual server to configure the data files path. To install SMEX on a remote SQL server, click the server where you will configure the remote SQL server settings.
    2. Click the computer name and refer to one of the following:
      • For SCC and VERITAS clusters: Specify the shared disk for SMEX to store the data files. Then, specify the SQL settings and select Install SQL server.
      • 2008 express to install SQL server 2008 express on the local computer. Specify an existing SQL server to use an existing separate database server.
        Note: Using a centralized SQL server for SMEX data storage increases the risk of a single point of failure and reduction in performance. Ensure that steps are taken for a high availability of the remote SQL server.
    3. Click OK. The Checking SQL Server Database screen appears.
      For CCR clusters and single servers, select one of the following:
      • Install SQL server 2008 express - This is to install an SQL server on the local computer.
      • Specify an existing SQL server to use an existing database server. Type the SQL server name, SQL server account, and password.

    4. Click OK. The Checking SQL Server Database screen appears.

    5. Check that the user name and password are correct. Click Next.

  11. The Connection Settings screen appears.
    1. If a proxy server handles Internet traffic on your network, select Use a proxy server to connect to Internet.
    2. Type the proxy hostname or address and port number that your proxy uses.
      The proxy server is disabled by default. If you want to use SOCKS 5 for secure communication behind the proxy, select Use SOCKS 5. If your proxy requires authentication, type the username and password used for authentication.
    3. Click Next to continue.

  12. The Product Activation screen appears. Type the activation code and then click Next to continue.

  13. The World Virus Tracking Program screen appears. Read the statement and click Yes to enroll. If you decline to participate, you can still proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.
  14. The Spam Prevention Settings screen appears.
    1. Select one of the following folder options for storing ScanMail-detected spam messages:
      • Select Integrate with Outlook Junk E-mail to send all ScanMail-detected spam messages to the Junk E-mail folder in Outlook.
      • Select Integrate with End User Quarantine to create a ScanMail Spam Folder in Outlook. You can also specify a different spam folder name.
    2. Click Next to continue.
      Note: End User Quarantine (EUQ) is not supported in Microsoft Outlook on Exchange Mailbox Server or Combo Server roles for Exchange Server 2010 or 2007.

  15. The Control Manager Server Settings screen appears.
    1. Specify the Control Manager server settings and specify the proxy server settings if you use a proxy server between your ScanMail server and Control Manager server.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  16. The Management Group Selection screen appears.
    1. Configure an Active Directory Group to have ScanMail management privileges by clicking Select Active Directory Group or select Skip now and activate later to configure this feature after installation.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  17. The Review Settings screen appears.
    1. Review your settings and then tick the Update pattern files when installation is complete check box if you want to update the pattern files immediately after installation.
    2. Click Next to continue.

  18. The Installation Progress screen appears.
    1. Click View details to display a list of each computer where you are installing SMEX and the status of each computer.
    2. Click Next when the installation completes.
      Note: SMEX installs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express for configurations, logs, and reports on 64-bit computers. It sets the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express security level to the highest.

  19. The Installation Complete screen appears. This screen informs you that the installation was successful. Click Finish to exit the setup program. The Readme file displays.
