Windows - 2000 Advanced Server, 2000 Server, 2003 Enterprise, 2003 Standard Server Edition, 2008 Enterprise, 2008 Standard

Problem Description

There are instances where the user loads smdreal and this error message appears:

There is no message database, so check the database again. Or reinstall it again!

Probable cause of the issue is a missing or corrupted database.

To reproduce the issue:

1. Stop the Domino server and then run the quit command on the Domino console.

2. Back up the \Data\smd\smmsg.nsf database.

3. Remove the \Data\smd\smmsg.nsf database.

4. Start the Domino server and then observed that not all smd tasks load on the Domino server.

5. Run the lo smdreal command on the Domino console.

Solution

To resolve the issue:

Option I: Restore the smmsg.nsf database

• If a backup of the smmsg.nsf database exists, restore it in \Data\smd.

Option II: Copy smmsg.nsf database from another server

• If a backup of smmsg.nsf does not exists, copy the database from another Domino server with SMD 3.0/5.0 and then replace the corrupted database in \Data\smd.

• If a copy does not exists on the other database, provide the user with one.

Option III: Reinstall SMD 3.0/5.0

• Reinstall SMD only if Options I and II is unable to resolve the issue.

Note: Once the issue has been addressed, update SMD to the latest patch, scan engine, and pattern files.
