Compress and password-protect a file using Windows’s built-in zip program

  1. Right-click on the file, select Send To, and then select Compressed (zipped)folder.
A zipped file with the same file name will be created in the same directory.
  2. To add a password to protect your file, double-click on the zipped file to open it, then click File > Add a password.
Note: The option to add a password to zipped files is not available in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
  3. On the Password field, type in “novirus”. This is the default password for Trend Micro files.
Note: When typing information, do not include the quotation marks.
  4. Retype the password into the Confirm Password field, then click OK.
  5. After adding the password, click on the Up button (the icon of a folder with a green arrow pointing upward) to go to the folder that contains your original and zipped files.
  6. Send the compressed or zipped file to Trend Micro Technical Support.

Extract password-protected zipped files using Windows’s built-in zip program

  1. Save the zipped file (for example, Sample File.zip) to a familiar location, such as your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the file to open it, then click File > ExtractAllfrom the top menu.
  3. When the Extraction Wizard window appears, click Next.
  4. When you are prompted to select the location for the extracted files, click Next.
Note: You do not need to make any changes since the default location is where you saved the zipped file. The program will create a folder with the same name as the zipped file.
  5. When you are prompted for a password, type in “novirus”. This is the default password for Trend Micro files.
Note: When typing information, do not include the quotation marks.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Wait for the extraction to complete. Once the contents of the zipped file have been extracted, click Finish.
If you like, you can make sure that the box beside Show extracted files is ticked so that Windows will automatically open up the location of the extracted files.

  4. Click Password
  5. When you are asked for the password you want to assign to the file, type in “novirus”. This is the default password for Trend Micro files.
Note: When typing information, do not include the quotation marks.
