Problem Description

Microsoft has announced that the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system will reach End-of-Support (EOS) ON July 13, 2010.

However, it has been projected that many enterprise environments will continue to have Windows 2000-based clients and servers in production throughout 2010 as the recent economic climate has affected customers’ plans and budgets for migration and hardware replacement.

Solution

In order to support our customers through this period, Trend Micro will be extending limited support on the following endpoint and server products on the Windows 2000 platform:

o

OfficeScan version 8.0 SP1

o

OfficeScan version 10.0 SP1

o

ServerProtect for Microsoft Windows/Novell Netware

Until otherwise notified, customers will receive such support from Trend Micro through December 31, 2011, subject to the following:

o

Support will be limited to basic malware protection functionality – VSAPI, SSAPI, and DCT engines and the relevant patterns.

o

The latest version of the VSAPI Scan Engine available for the affected products on July 13, 2010, will be the last version officially supported on Windows 2000 (exact version will be announced some time before the 7/13/2010 date).

o

Other product issues (i.e. bugs) will not be supported unless they specifically relate to core scan engine or pattern deployment.

o

Product issues that are directly related to the Operating System will not be addressed by Trend Micro. If the customer has an official Windows 2000 extension agreement with Microsoft, resolution of such issues shall be at the sole discretion of Microsoft.

o

New features, patches, and hot fixes added to the affected products after July 13, 2010 will not be officially supported on Windows 2000 clients and severs.

o

No new feature requests for Trend Micro products on Windows 2000 platform will be considered.

o

In order to provide continued detection with a growing pattern file size, Windows 2000 clients will be required to increase the minimum memory to at least 512MB (from 256MB). OfficeScan 10 SP1 customers can optionally switch to Smart Scan mode to leverage the File Reputation capabilities of the Smart Protection Network to avoid this memory requirement.

Trend Micro encourages all customers to migrate to the latest technology, including supported operating systems, as soon as possible to ensure the best protection.
