Problem Description

Besides viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, Trend Micro Internet Security Pro, Trend Micro Internet Security, and Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware can also detect vulnerabilities in your Windows operating system.

It is important to patch these vulnerabilities so that malicious files cannot exploit them. This can be done by downloading and installing the latest Microsoft Windows Updates onto your system.

Solution

To apply Microsoft Windows Updates to your Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 system, please follow the steps below:

1.

Open Windows Update.

To do this, follow the instructions for your operating system:

·

For Windows XP:

Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft Update

·

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

a. Click on the Windows orb or Start button then select All Programs.

b. From the list of programs, click Windows Update.

2.

Once you are taken to the Microsoft Update website, click on the Express button.

(Click on the image to see a larger version)

3.

Wait while the site checks the latest updates against the updates already on your computer.

4.

Once done and you are shown the list of available updates, click Install Updates to install all the updates listed.

5.

Wait until all the updates have been downloaded and installed onto your computer.

Note: Some updates require you to restart the computer even if not all updates have been applied yet. If you are prompted, restart your computer. The updates will resume after the restart.

6.

Once all updates have been applied, close all open programs then click Restart Now. This will restart your computer so the updates can take effect.

To double-check whether there are still updates that have not been applied onto your computer, go through the steps again, beginning with Step 1.

·

If no updates are listed in Step 4, you have applied all available security updates.

·

If there are updates still on the list, go through the rest of the steps in this solution.
