Getting stuck on Windows Startup Repair after updating Trend Micro Security

This articles shows you how to get out of Windows Startup Repair that keeps on appearing after updating your Trend Micro Security on your new computer with Windows 10.

This issue happens due to the incompatiblity between the Trend Micro Security and Windows 10 TH1 updates.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Disable OS Secure Boot
To disable OS Secure Boot, do either of the following options below:

On the Startup Repair screen, do the following:

  1. Click Troubleshoot, then click Advanced options.
  2. Click UEFI Firmware Settings.
  3. Click Restart.

To disable OS Secure Boot using PC BIOS, do the following:

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Press the power button to turn on your computer.
  3. Open the PC BIOS menu by pressing a key during the boot up sequence. The key depends on the manufacturer of your computer. It can be F1, F2, F12, F8, or ESC.
  4. Find the Secure Boot setting. Set it to Disabled. This option is found in either the Security tab, the Boot tab, or the Authentication tab.
  5. Save changes, then exit. Your computer should reboot.
STEP 2: Install Windows Updates

To install Windows updates, do the following:

  1. On your keyboard, press the key.
  2. Click Settings, then click Update & security.
  3. Click Check for updates. Windows will now check if you already have the latest updates installed on your computer.
  4. If any updates are found, click Install updates. Otherwise, proceed to STEP 3: Enable OS Secure Boot.
Note: Make sure Windows Update 3140745 is included on the update.
STEP 3: Enable OS Secure Boot

To enable OS Secure Boot, do either of the following options below:

On the Startup Repair screen, do the following:

  1. Click Troubleshoot, then click Advanced options.

STEP 1: Install Windows Updates

To install Windows updates, do the following:

  1. On your keyboard, press the key.
  2. Click Settings, then click Update & security.
  3. Click Check for updates. Windows will now check if you already have the latest updates installed on your computer.
  4. If any updates are found, click Install updates. Otherwise, proceed to STEP 2: Download and Install the latest version of Trend Micro Security.
STEP 2: Download and Install the latest version of Trend Micro Security

To install the latest version of Trend Micro Security, do the following:

  1. Download the installer file from any of the links below to begin the installation:
  2. Double-click the installer to run it.

    Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.

  3. Wait for the installer to extract the files needed for the installation.
  4. Wait as Trend Micro checks if your computer is compatible for installation.

  5. Type your serial number, then click Next.

  6. Read the License Agreement, then click Agree and Install.

  7. Wait for the program to install. This may take a couple of minutes.
    Installation
  8. Click Finish.
    You will see the main console of your Trend Micro Security program.
