Trend Micro Vault Features

Trend Micro Vault helps keep your sensitive files secure. You can do the following on your Trend Micro Vault:

  • Easily block casual access to files in the vault.
  • Seal the vault completely if your computer is lost or stolen.
  • If your computer is lost or stolen, you can either:
    • Use the Report Stolen service to seal the vault immediately.

    • Use your Trend Micro account to seal the vault.

Trend Micro Vault regularly checks if you have reported your computer as stolen or missing. If it receives your report, it will automatically block all access to the files inside your vault. Even the correct password will not be able to open it.


Turn ON Trend Micro Vault

  1. Open the main console of your Maximum Security. Do either of the following:
    • Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your desktop.
    • Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your system tray (near the clock).
  2. Click the Data tab.

  3. Click Configure for the Trend Micro Vault.

  4. Click OK in the introductory window.

  5. Fill out the required fields, then click Create.

    Your Trend Micro Vault will be initiated and you will see a confirmation window once it is done.

    Select a Password window will appear only if you have not yet set a password for your Maximum Security program features.

    This password will also protect the following features:

    • Parental Controls
    • Data Theft Prevention
  6. Drag your important files to the Trend Micro Vault Trend_Micro_Vault_Icon_Trend_Micro_Maximum_Securityicon on your desktop to protect them.
    • Dragging a file or folder into the vault will move it there instead of just copying it. This will happen even if you hold down CTRL when dragging the file.
    • To lock or unlock the vault, right click the icon on your desktop,then select either Unlock Vault or Lock Vault.


Lock the Trend Micro Vault when computer is lost or stolen

Your Trend Micro Vault regularly checks if you have reported your computer as stolen or missing. If it receives your report, it will automatically block all access to the files inside the vault. Even the correct password will not be able to open it. The vault will remain inaccessible until you report your computer found.

If your computer is lost or stolen, you can immediately seal the Trend Micro Vault through the Report Stolen service on your Trend Micro Account. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Trend Micro Account.
  2. Click on the Resources tab, then click on Go to Trend Micro Vault.

    The Report Stolen window will appear.

  3. Provide your email address and password, then click Report.


Unlock the Trend Micro Vault when computer is recovered

If you have recovered your lost computer, you need to unseal the Trend Micro Vault to restore your access to the vault. To do this, report the computer as found by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Trend Micro Account.
  2. Click on the Resources tab, then click on Go to Trend Micro Vault.

    The Report Stolen window will appear.

  3. Click Report Found.

  4. Provide your email address and password.
  5. Click the Report button.


Recover files from the Old Versions of Trend Micro Vault

To recover the files from the previous versions of your Vault after upgrading your Trend Micro Security program, do the following:

  1. Back up your files before upgrading to the latest version of your Trend Micro Vault
    1. Right-click the vault, then select Unlock Vault to unseal it.
    2. Back-up all the files on your Trend Micro Vault.
    3. Upgrade your Trend Micro Security Maximum Security program.
  2. Recover the files in your Trend Micro Vault after upgrading to the latest version ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha;">
  3. Double-click the Trend Micro desktop icon or the system tray icon to open the main console of your Trend Micro Security Maximum Security.
  4. Click Data.
  5. Click Configure for Trend Micro Vault.


Change the password of your Trend Micro Vault

To change the password of your Trend Micro Vault, you need to change the password of the main console of your Trend Micro Security program. Read this article to change the main console password of Trend Micro Security.

Changing the main console password for your Trend Micro Main Console also changes the password of the following features:

  • Data Theft Prevention
  • Parental Control


Cannot open Trend Micro Vault

To resolve this issue, use your Trend Micro main console password to open the Trend Micro vault. This is applicable when you installed your Trend Micro Security program, then changed the password.

For example:

  1. You installed Trend Micro Security on your computer.
  2. You turned on the Trend Micro Vault with Password 1 before you set your Settings password for Parental Controls or Data Theft Protection.
  3. You changed your password to a new one (Password 2). You use Password 1 to open the Trend Micro Vault, while you use Password 2 to access your Trend Micro Security Settings and other features.
  4. You will need to use Password 2 to open Trend Micro Vault after the latest update.
