Trend Micro Security software turns on and off automatically

You encounter the following issues with your Trend Micro Security program:

  • Trend Micro Security program restarts automatically every time you click the About this software button to update the program.
  • The console randomly shuts down every 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Trend Micro Security program keeps turning itself off.
To resolve this issue, do the following:

STEP 1: Uninstall conflicting software
Uninstall or delete the other security programs or incompatible software installed on your computer. Do the following:
  1. Click the button below to download the OpenControlPanel.exe:

     

     

  2. Right-click the OpenControlPanel.exe icon, then choose Run as Administrator.
  3. Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.
  4. The Programs and Features window will appear, and the page with the list of incompatible software.
  5. From the Programs and Features window, select the program you wish to remove, then click Remove or Uninstall.
  6. Wait for the program to be uninstalled, then restart your computer.
    If you encounter any problems with the uninstallation process, contact the software manufacturer's support team.

STEP 2: Make sure your computer meets the System Requirements
Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements. refer to the table below:

FOR WINDOWS XP AND WINDOWS VISTA USERS:

Microsoft has formally announced Windows XP (April 8, 2014) and Windows Vista (April 11, 2017) end of support. Because Microsoft no longer fixes issues on Windows XP and Windows Vista, it has become increasingly difficult for Trend Micro to keep users safe on these operating systems. We encourage all of our users to upgrade their PCs to a more modern operating system which will provide greater stability and security.

I'm still using Windows XP, what Trend Micro Security program can I install on my computer?

You can install Trend Micro Security version 10 on your Windows XP. For more information, refer to this Knowledge Base article section:

STEP 3: Reinstall/Upgrade your Trend Micro Security software
To reinstall or upgrade your program, do the following:
  1. Download the installer file to begin the installation.
    Serial Number Starts with an 'X'
    Maximum Security
    Serial Number Starts with a 'P'
    Internet Security
    Serial Number Starts with an 'A'
    Antivirus+ Security
    Note: If your serial number starts with "T", contact Best Buy or your Internet Service Provider, depending on where you purchased the program.
  2. Double-click the installer to run it.
    Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.
  3. Wait for the installer to extract the files needed for the installation.
  4. Click Yes when asked to remove the old program version.
  5. Click Restart Now when prompted to restart your computer.

    After restarting, the installation will resume and will prompt for your serial number.
  6. Type your serial number, then click Next.

  7. Read the License Agreement, then click Agree and Install.
  8. Wait for the program to install. This may take a couple of minutes.
  9. Click Finish.
    You will see the main console of your Trend Micro Security program.

  10. Right-click the Trend Micro icon on your system tray, then select Check for Program Updates to update your Trend Micro program.

  11. Restart your computer after the update.
