"Connect to the Internet" error message appears on the Trend Micro Security software

You receive the following notification message from your Trend Micro Security software:

Connect to the internet

"​Connect to the Internet
Your protection depends on getting the latest threat information from Trend Micro.
After connecting this computer to the Internet, click Update Now."

We recommend that you print out this document or bookmark this page before proceeding because you will be asked to restart your computer during the procedure.

To resolve the issue, do the following:

Apply the hotfix

Run and install the hotfix provided below. Do the following:

  1. Make sure that your Trend Micro Security program has not started running any scans or receiving any updates.
  2. Click the button below to download the hotfix:

    Download Hotfix
  3. Double-click the Ti_1200_win_en_AMSP55_HotIssue_hfb1407.exe icon to run the hotfix.
  4. Accept the License Agreement, then click Next.
  5. Click Install.
  6. When a warning window appears, click Yes.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Open your Trend Micro security program.

    If the error message still appears after applying the hotfix,
    proceed to STEP 2: Do a clean reinstallation

Do a clean reinstallation

Performing a clean reinstallation removes remnants of your previous Trend Micro program so you can install the latest updated version with no issues.

Do the following:

  1. Download the Remnant Remover Tool by clicking the download button below:

    Download Removal Tool

  2. Double-click Ti_120_win_en_Tool_TMRemnantFileRemoveTool_hfb0001.exe to run the tool.
  3. Click I agree on the terms of the license agreement, then click Next.
  4. Click Install.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Install the latest version of Trend Micro Security.
