This article shows you what to do when the CoreServiceShell.exe causes high CPU or memory usage which leads to the slow performance of your computer. This can happen due to conflicting software, malware infection or remnants of your old Trend Micro program.

The CoreServiceShell.exe is the main process of your Trend Micro Security program. It does the following:

  • Interface with the operating system's Service Control Manager (SCM)
  • Receives various service requests such as start service or service status request
  • Loads the Trend Micro Security program's core modules and plug-ins
  • Serves as the entry point for the whole software framework
  • Manages your Trend Micro Security software

Remove conflicting software

Having third-party security software installed on your computer can cause performance issues and conflict with your Trend Micro Security program. Refer to this Knowledge Base article for the program list: Programs to remove before installing Trend Micro Security.

To remove the conflicting program, do the following:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Windows Key + R keys.
  2. In the Open field, type "appwiz.cpl", then click on OK. The Programs and Features window will open.
  3. Select the program you wish to remove, then click Remove or Uninstall.
  4. Wait for the program to be uninstalled, then restart your computer.

    If you encounter any problems with the uninstallation process, contact the software manufacturer's support team.
