Using the Privacy Scanner of Antivirus for Mac

The Trend Micro Privacy Scanner of your Antivirus for Mac helps you check if your social networking site (SNS) user account settings is secure enough and provide you recommended settings to improve security on the SNS sites: Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn.
This will help you make sure that your personal information stays private because social networks make sharing information about yourself very easy and you might share more than you would like.

Using the Safari browser
To enable the Privacy Scanner on your Safari, do the following:
  1. Open your Safari.
  2. Click the Safari menu, then click  Preferences.

  3. Click Extensions, then tick  Enable Trend Micro Toolbar.

  4. Close the Preferences window.
  5. On the Safari browser, click the Trend Micro Toolbar icon, then click  Check social network privacy.

  6. Choose the social networking site that you wish to check for privacy concerns:

Using the Google Chrome browser
To enable the Privacy Scanner on your Google Chrome, do the following:
  1. Click the Chrome Web Store icon below to get your Trend Micro Toolbar:

  2. Click  Free to download the Trend Micro Toolbar.
  3. Click Add when the Confirm New Extension window appears. A notification saying "Trend Micro Toolbar has been added to Chrome" will appear.
  4. On the Google Chrome browser, click the Trend Micro Toolbar icon, then click  Check social network privacy.

  5. Choose the social networking site that you wish to check for privacy concerns:

Using the Mozilla Firefox browser
To enable the Privacy Scanner on your Mozilla Firefox, do the following:
  1. Open your Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click the Firefox menu, then choose Add-ons.

  3. Click  Enable to start the Trend Micro Toolbar.

  4. Click the Trend Micro Toolbar icon, then click  Check social network privacy.

  5. Choose the social networking site that you wish to check for privacy concerns:

Why doesn't the Privacy Scanner appear in Facebook, Twitter, or Google+?
The Privacy Scanner does not appear because the Trend Micro toolbar is not enabled on your browsers.
To enable the toolbar, do the following:
  1. On your keyboard, press the COMMAND + Q keys at the same time. This will close your browser completely.
  2. Open the main console of your Antivirus for Mac. Do the following:
    1. Click the Trend Micro icon on the menu bar.
    2. Click Open Trend Micro Antivirus....
  3. Click Web, then click Toolbar.
  4. Enable the Trend Micro Toolbar for the browser that does not show it.
    Note: If the toolbar is already enabled, try to disable, then reenable the toolbar again.
  5. Open the browser and make sure that the Trend Micro Toolbar now appears there.

Why were my privacy settings not scanned?
You must stay signed into Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for Privacy Scanner to work. How you do that depends on the website. You also must not close the tab that the Privacy Scanner automatically opens.
Note: If you close the browser tab opened by the Privacy Scanner before it has finished making changes, then it cannot change your privacy settings.

Why can't I scan my Google+ account?
Privacy Scanner can only check your Google+ profile for privacy concerns, not your Google account. If you keep seeing the "Once the Google+ site opens again automatically, please leave it open to scan the settings" message, you can probably solve the problem by following these recommendations:
  • You must not close any browser tabs opened by the Privacy Scanner until it has finished.
  • You have created a Google+ profile, and not just a Google account.
  • Your computer can connect to the Internet.

Why did I get the error "Something Went Wrong"?
This error message appears if something unexpected happens. To solve the problem:
  • Make sure that your computer can connect to the Internet.
  • Do not close any browser tabs opened by the Privacy Scanner until it has finished.
