Upgrading Trend Micro Maximum Security to the latest version

Learn how to upgrade your Maximum Security to the latest version. To be eligible for the free upgrade:

  • You must have an unexpired subscription.
  • For Windows, your serial number starts with the letter “X”.
  • For Mac, your serial number starts with the letter “X” or "M".
  • Your computer must meet the system requirements.

Note: This article is also applicable to Premium Security.

To upgrade your Trend Micro Maximum Security, do the following:

STEP 1. Make sure your computer meets the system requirements
On April 8th, 2014, Microsoft formally announced the Windows XP end of support. Because Microsoft no longer fixes issues on Windows XP, it has become increasingly difficult for Trend Micro to keep users safe on this operating system. We encourage all of our users to upgrade their PCs to a more modern operating system which will provide greater stability and security. You can refer to this article for more information.

 

Check the table below to know if your Windows Operating System meets the recommended system requirements to install Trend Micro Maximum Security:

STEP 2. Download
  1. Download the installer file to begin the installation.

     

     

  2. Double-click the TTi_11.0_HE_Full.exe to run it.
    Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.
  3. Wait for the installer to extract the files needed for the installation.

STEP 3. System Check
  1. Click Yes when asked to remove the old program version.

  2. Click Restart Now when prompted to restart your computer.

    After restarting, the installation will resume and will prompt for your serial number.

STEP 4. Serial Number
  1. Type your serial number, then click Next.

STEP 5. License Agreement
  1. Read the License Agreement, then click Agree and Install.

STEP 6. Installation
  1. Wait for the program to install. This may take a couple of minutes.

  1. Click Finish.
    You will see the main console of your Trend Micro Security program.

To upgrade your Trend Micro Security for Mac, do the following:

STEP 1: Take note of your serial number
To find your serial number, do the following:
  1. Click the Trend Micro icon on the upper right side of the menu bar.
  2. Click Open Trend Micro Internet Security on the list to open the Trend Micro program.

  3. Click Subscription Expires at the lower right corner of the Trend Micro main console.

    The Subscription Information window will appear with your program information and Serial Number.

STEP 2: Make sure your Mac meets the system requirements
Check the table below to know if your Mac meets the recommended system requirements to install Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac:

  • Mac OS X® version 10.12 “Sierra" (10.12 or higher)
  • Mac OS X® version 10.11 “El Capitan" (10.11 or higher)
  • Mac OS X® version 10.10 "Yosemite" (10.10 or higher)
Supported Web Browsers
  • Apple® Safari® 8.0 or higher
  • Mozilla® Firefox® (The newest version and the most recent previous version)
  • Google Chrome™ (The newest version and the most recent previous version)
Internet Connection
Antivirus for Mac needs an Internet connection for activating online, checking the expiration date, downloading updates (including program and pattern files) from Trend Micro, obtaining information about malicious software, or browsing pages on the Trend Micro website.
If you have a dial-up or other connection to the Internet that charges fees per connection, by the amount of time connected or for the amount of data downloaded, make sure your router or connection software does not automatically start a connection to support the features listed above to avoid extra connection fees. Follow your router's instructions to edit your router settings if necessary.

STEP 3: Uninstall your old Trend Micro program (2016 or older version)
To uninstall your Trend Micro program, do the following:
  1. Click Go > Application located in the upper-left of the Desktop.

  3. Select Uninstall Trend Micro Internet Security.

  4. Click Uninstall.

  5. Enter your Mac credentials when necessary.

STEP 4: Download and install Antivirus for Mac
For installation instructions, you can watch the video tutorial or follow the steps below:
  1. Download the disk image (.DMG) or installer file, then save it to your desktop.

     

     

  2. Open the Antivirus for Mac installer.
  3. Click Install Trend Micro Antivirus.

  4. Click Open on the security warning to continue the installation.
  5. Click Continue.

  6. Click Continue on the Welcome screen.

  7. Read the License Agreement, then click Continue.

  8. Click Agree when prompted to accept the License Agreement.

    Note: You can click Disagree if you do not agree with the terms of the License Agreement but this will automatically terminate the installation process.
  9. Type your serial number on the field provided, then click Continue.

    Note: You can find the serial number from the CD sleeve or Order Confirmation email. If you want to install the trial version, select Start a free trial of Trend Micro Antivirus, then click Continue.
  10. Click Install .

  11. Type your administrator password, then click Install Software.

    Note: The administrator password is created when you first set up your Mac operating system. Wait while the Trend Micro components are installed onto your Mac.
  12. Provide your email address, then click Continue.

  13. Click Close after the installation is done.
