“Too Many Installations” message appears when activating your Trend Micro Security software

You receive the error message when you activate your Trend Micro program:
"Too Many Installations. 
You may only activate this software on a limited number of computers. Because you have reached that limit, you must either stop protecting another computer, or buy another subscription."
This happens when you have installed the program more than the allowed number of seats.

Why am I Getting this message?

Your Trend Micro programs have different license seats:
  • Premium Security = 5 seats
  • Maximum Security = 3 seats
  • Internet Security = 3 seats
  • Antivirus+ Security = 1 seat
To check the available seats of your subscription, login to your Trend Micro Account. For instructions, refer to this Knowledge Base article: Accessing Trend Micro Account (MyAccount).
The error message appears when there are no available license seat left for your program. The license seat is used when you:
  • Install the program on your computer or other computers
  • Install the program on the same computer more than once
  • Reinstall the program on the same computer after reformatting its hard drive
  • Upgrade the program on the same computer where an old version was previously installed
  • Install and activate any of the following bundled programs using your Trend Micro Security Serial Number:
    • Antivirus for Mac
    • Mobile Security for iOS
    • Mobile Security for Android

 

How Do I Resolve This Issue?

To resolve this issue, transfer the protection from your previous installation to the computer where you are installing the program. Follow the steps below:
For Trend Micro Security 2015 and 2016
  1. In the Password field, type your Trend Micro Account password, then click Next.

    Note: If you forgot your password and you cannot access the registered email address, refer to this Knowledge Base article: "You did not provide the right information. Please try again." error message appear when logging in to MyAccount.
  2. Select the computer or device, where the program was previously activated, that you want to replace.
  3. Provide a computer name.
    Example: "Home Computer" or "Office Computer".
  4. Click Next.
    Transfer Protection

     

    A confirmation window will appear.

  5. Click Finish.
    You have now activated the protection on your computer.
For Titanium 2014 and Older Versions
  1. Type your password in the Password field, then click Next.
    Too Many Installations

     

    Note: If you forgot your password and you cannot access the registered email address, refer to this Knowledge Base article: "You did not provide the right information. Please try again." error message appear when logging in to MyAccount.
  2. Type your computer name.
    Example: "Home Computer" or "Office Computer"
    Select Computer Name

     

  3. Click Next. A confirmation window will appear.

  4. Click Finish.
    You have now activated the protection on the computer.
To avoid this error message in the future, you can also refer to this Knowledge Base article: Transferring a license from one device or computer to another.
Note: If you have multiple computers, you can do any of the following:
  • Buy additional protection by clicking Make another purchase on the too many installations window.
  • Activate another serial number by clicking Use another serial number on the Too many installations window.
  • Manage your license seats by accessing your Trend Micro Account.
