Get the results you're looking for
Find the information you need!
Welcome to the new Trend Micro search engine.
Our main objective is to create a fast and easy-to-use search engine to give you the answers you need.
As with any search engine, the accuracy and relevancy of search results is dependent on the combination of words and phrases used.
This tutorial will provide you with an overview of the search engine features and some useful tips to help you obtain the best search results.
Get to know the Basic Search functions

Fig 1. Basic Search
These are the sections you can find in the Basic Search:
- Keyword field: This is where you type your query. When you type a query, try the following to get your desired results.
- Describe what you need with few terms and as specific as possible using keywords.
Avoid phrases like [I want to], [How do I], [Where can I], these phrases are typically used as part of the language sentence construction and grammatical rules. The search engine uses sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search within the Knowledge Base.
Example: Instead of typing How do I uninstall Trend Micro Internet Security?, type uninstall "Trend Micro Internet Security".
- Avoid using too generic terms such as install, update, configure as these will produce too many results. Instead combine other keywords related to the first keyword.
Example: Instead of typing configure, type configure personal firewall.
- Further narrow your results by enclosing names such as product names or product features, and error messages in double-quotes (""). Search will look for documents containing words that appear together in the same order that you entered them in double quotes.
Example: Instead of typing too many installations, type "too many installations".
Instead of typing configure Trend Micro Internet Security, try configure "Trend Micro Internet Security" or Configure "Trend Micro Internet Security" "personal firewall".

- Product field: Selecting a product helps narrow down your query to documents related to a specific product.
Use this field when you want to see documents related to a product where the product name does not appear in the document text. This is useful if you want to narrow your results to a specific product name when your search terms may apply to more than one product.
Example: Instead of typing Remove conficker virus with "Trend Micro Internet Security", use the search keywords Remove conficker virus and select the product name in the product field.

- Product version field: Use this field when selecting a product to further narrow your results to a specific product version.

- Support Site Filter: By default, the search engine matches your query to documents available in the support site you are currently in.
Example: If you are in the Home & Home Office Support site, the search engine is will search for documents related to Home & Home Office products only. You can select the Entire Knowledge Base radio button if you want to get broader search results. These results will include "product related solutions and articles" related to all products from the knowledgebase as well as "malware and security information" from the Virus Encyclopedia.

- Advanced Search link: This link will open another page which allows you to conduct more complex searches using a variety of criteria. The search engine will match your query based on specific criteria depending on which keywords are placed in each field. The more criteria you use, the fewer results are returned.
Example: Search for Personal Firewall

You can combine keywords in various combinations of each field to obtain different results.
Example: Search for "Personal Firewall" where the word Profile is not included anywhere in the document

- Synonyms: Synonyms are terms that were defined to have the same meaning.
Example: [money back and refund], [cancel and stop], [hang and crash], [change and modify], [restart and reboot], [behavior monitoring and AEGIS]
When you search for either of the term above, you will get results that contain either term or both of them. If you type in AEGIS, you can get results containing behavior monitoring.

- Spell checker: A prompt will display when search terms are misspelled, or when certain words are not recognized by the search engine. In some cases a new word with the correct spelling will be displayed, or if no correct spelling is found, the system may suggest two words with correct spelling.
A spelling suggestion is returned in the form of Did you mean when the spell checker detected a possible spelling mistake.
Example: If you type installtion, the spell checker will suggest the alternative spelling installation. If you type systemreboot, the spell-checker may suggest system reboot as an alternative search term.
