Problem Description

ERS Hosted is a service bundled with Client Server Messaging Security for SMB (CSM) 3.6. When you upgrade to Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS) Advanced 5.0/5.1, the services HES - Inbound Filtering and ERS are added.

Solution

The following describes the differences between the three services:

ERS Hosted

This is a cost-effective, hosted email security service that provides dynamic spam protection at the network layer. It protects your business against spam and inappropriate content before they reach your network. Trend Micro supplies the hardware, software, and messaging expertise to cleanse your email. The cleaned mail stream is sent directly to your mail server for final delivery to your end users.

For this hosted service, a simple redirection of your Mail Exchange (MX) record is all that is needed to start the service.

ERS

This performs the same type of email filtering with its hosted counterpart. However, instead of MX record redirection, this involves configuration of your MTA in order to perform the appropriate DNS queries for the type of Email Reputation Service to which you subscribed (Standard or Advanced).

HES - Inbound Filtering

This is a hosted email security service that can benefit any size of organization. Trend Micro provides the hardware, software, and messaging expertise to cleanse your email of spam, viruses, worms, Trojans, and phishing (identity theft) attacks. The cleaned mail stream is sent directly to your mail server for final delivery to your end users. It also includes MX record redirection to start using the service.
