Problem Description

It may be observed that loading the OfficeScan client on a Citrix server affects the performance of the server.

This article provides instructions on how you can tune the OfficeScan client to work more efficiently with Citrix servers.

Solution

Each OfficeScan client session in Citrix will load an OfficeScan client icon, which will consume 5-10 MB of the memory. If you have 30 sessions, then they may consume more memory than what you have assigned to the server.

To tune OfficeScan client for Citrix server, please do the following:

1.

You can unload and disable the client icon to release this memory using the following KB article:

How to turn off the OfficeScan client icon in the system tray

2.

Exclude the following directories from scanning:

o

Citrix program dir

o

System page file

o

Print spooler dir

3.

Limit the scanning on the Citrix server:

Scan local drives only for real-time scanning (enabled by default)

Networked computers\client management\real-time scan settings\scan settings\scan network drive

4.

Enable scanning of files that are created or modified only.

Networked computers\client management\real-time scan settings\target\user activity on files

Select scan files being and set created/modified.

5.

Make sure that you have the latest OfficeScan components (Scan Engine/Pattern files) as these will enhance the performance of the OfficeScan client.
