Problem Description

This article tells you if OfficeScan supports Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V and discusses a known issue between Microsoft Hyper-V and some antivirus software.

Solution

OfficeScan 10 Service Pack 1 (server and client) supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V Server. You can refer to the Trend Micro OfficeScan Service Pack 1 Readme for more information.

However, there is a known InterOP issue between Microsoft Hyper-V and some antivirus software. Hyper-V machine configuration files may get corrupted during creation of a new virtual machine that is monitored by real-time scan.

The root cause is that Hyper-V uses non-cached I/O requests while the real-time protection of antivirus software often uses mapped I/O requests.

There are two suggested workarounds for this known issue:

1.

(Recommended) Follow the instructions in Microsoft KB 961804 to exclude the following directories and files from real-time scanning:

·

Default virtual machine configuration directory (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)

·

Custom virtual machine configuration directories

·

Default virtual hard disk drive directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)

·

Custom virtual hard disk drive directories

·

Snapshot directories

2.

Disable file mapping

a.

Open the Registry Editor.

Important: Always back up the whole registry before making any modifications. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious system problems.

b.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSApiNt\Parameters

c.

Add a DWORD key “UseMapping” and set its value to “0”.

d.

Close the Registry Editor.

e.

Reload the Scan Engine drivers or reboot the system.
