When upgrading your Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware from the 2008 version to the 2009 version, you can start installing the newer version without removing the old one. The setup program automatically detects and uninstalls previous versions of the software.

Before upgrading your program, please take note of the following information:

•

An upgrade will delete all files that have been quarantined by Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware and all entries in the Approved and Blocked lists.

•

You need to make sure your computer meets the program’s minimum system requirements; otherwise, the program may not run properly.

•

Your existing serial number will automatically be transferred to the new version, so you will not have to enter your serial number during the installation.

To upgrade from Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2008 to 2009, follow the steps below:

Important: We recommend that you print out this document before proceeding because you will be asked to restart your computer during the procedure.

1.

Download the installer file by doing the following:

a.

Click on the appropriate link below to download the installer for the version of Windows you are currently running:

•

32-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista

•

64-bit version of Windows Vista

Note: To find out whether you are running Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit, refer to solution EN-1038409. The 64-bit version of Windows XP is not supported by this product at this time.

b.

On the File Download window that appears, click Save. The Save As window will appear.

c.

Select Desktop as the location for the file then click Save.

When the download is complete, start the installation by either going to your desktop and double-click on the downloaded file or clicking Run on the Download complete window.

If you are using Windows Vista, the message “A program needs your permission to continue” may appear. If this happens, click Continue to proceed with the installation.

3.

Wait while the program checks your system requirements and detects your older version of Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware.

4.

When you are asked if you want to upgrade to the latest version, click Yes.

5.

When the License Agreement window appears, read it then select I accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.

6.

Click Next when you are prompted for your serial number since this is automatically filled up for you during an upgrade.

7.

On the Install Options window, click Next. The default option, Regular Installation (recommended) will already have been selected for you.

8.

Wait while the installer removes your older Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware files and installs the new files.

9.

When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Restart Now so the changes to your system can take effect.

10.

Once your computer has started up again, wait while the Trend Micro installer sets up the various modules for the program.

11.

Once this is done, verify your registration information.

•

If you are online when your installer finishes setting up the program modules, you do not need to do anything.

•

If you are not online when the installer finishes setting up the program modules, connect to the Internet, open the main console, and click Activate.

The Protection Activated window showing your serial number, expiration date, and computer description will appear so you can verify this information.
