How to use the Update Tool when my Trend Micro update fails

Problem:

When I try to update my Trend Micro Home and Home Office product, I encounter issues or receive error messages. How can I update my program?


Note: Using the tool in this solution will update your product but may not remove error messages that appear when updating. For instructions on dealing with various error messages, please refer to solution EN-1054543. You can use our Update Tool as an alternative way to update your product. For instructions, please see the steps below:

 

1.

Download the Update Tool and save it onto your Desktop.

 

 

 

 

To do this, click on your operating system:

 

 

 

 

 

 

·  

Windows XP

 

 

·  

Windows Vista 32-bit

 

 

·  

Windows Vista 64-bit

 

 

 

 

 

Note: For instructions on how to find out whether you are running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows, refer to solution EN-1038409 for Windows Vista or EN-1054432 for Windows 7. The 64-bit version of Windows XP is not supported by this product at this time.

 

 

 

 

 

If you are not sure how to download the tool, see below for instructions:

Click on the link for your operating system above.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

b.

On the File Download window, click Save.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

c.

When the Save As window appears, click Desktop from the left pane as the location, then click Save.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

d.

Wait for the download to finish.

 

 

 

 

 

2.

Run the Update Tool by doing any of the following:

 

 

 

 

·  

For Windows Vista users, go to your desktop, right-click on the downloaded file, and select Run as Administrator.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·  

For Windows XP, go to your desktop and double-click on the downloaded file.

 

 

 

3.

Click OK to continue.

 

 

4.

Wait while the tool downloads and installs your updates.

Note: The tool will download over 50 megabytes (MB) in updates. This normally takes 10 to 15 minutes, but it may take longer, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

 

 

 

If you receive the notification “Your computer might be at risk” in your system tray, ignore this while the Update Tool installs the latest updates.

 

 

5.

When prompted to restart the computer so the changes can take effect, click OK.
