Problem Description

After downloading the latest updates for Trend Micro Internet Security 2010, I lost my Internet connection. I cannot access websites, and sometimes I cannot send or receive emails using my account with Yahoo!Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, or other web-based email services.

Solution

There may be sections of the pattern in the latest updates that the scan engine, VSAPI, cannot read properly. This issue occurs if you are using a scan engine version lower than VSAPI 9.0.

 

To resolve the issue, please do the following:

 

1.

Download the fix by following the steps below:

 

 

 

a.

Download the file by clicking on your operating system below:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

b.

Save the file in your My Documents folder for easy access.

 

 

 

 

c.

After completing the download, go to your My Documents folder and verify that the zipped file is present.

 

 

2.

Extract the files.

 

 

 

 

To do this, follow the steps below:

 

 

 

 

 

a.

Right-click on the compressed file and select Open With from the menu that appears.

 

 

 

 

 

 

b.

Select Compressed (Zipped) Folders.

 

 

 

 

 

 

c.

When the Extraction Wizard appears, click Next.

 

 

 

 

 

 

d.

Make sure the checkbox beside Show extracted files has been ticked then click Finish.

 

 

 

 

 

A new window containing the files will appear.

 

 

3.

Copy the files.

 

 

 

 

To do this, follow these steps:

 

 

 

 

 

a.

Select the files you have just extracted. Make sure both files are selected by holding down the SHIFT key when you click on the filenames.

 

 

 

 

 

 

b.

Click on the Edit option then click Copy.

 

 

4.

Stop Trend Micro services.

 

 

 

 

You can do this by following these steps:

 

 

 

 

 

a.

Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Support Diagnostic Toolkit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, right-click on Trend Micro Support Diagnostic Toolkit then select Run as administrator. If a User Account Control window appears, click Continue or enter the password for an administrator account then click OK before proceeding to the next step.

 

 

 

 

 

 

b.

Go to the [A] General tab then click Quit All Modules.

 

 

5.

Transfer the files by doing the following:

 

 

 

a.

Click Start > Run.

 

 

 

 

b.

Type “%Systemroot%” into the field provided then hit ENTER on your keyboard.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note: When typing text into a field, do not include the quotation marks.

 

 

 

 

c.

Double-click on the system32 folder to open it.

 

 

 

 

d.

Once in the system32 folder, double-click on the drivers folder to open it as well.

 

 

 

 

e.

Click Edit and select Paste.

 

 

6.

Restart your computer.
