Problem Description

This article prevents the OfficeScan client icon from loading in the Windows Client Desktop Systems tray. This can be done via the OfficeScan server management console.

Solution

Please do the following:
  1. Log on to the OfficeScan server management console.
  2. Go to Networked Computers > Client Management and then select the domain that you want to turn off the OfficeScan icon.
  3. Click Settings > Privileges and Other Settings > Other Settings tab.
  4. Under Client Console Access Restriction, tick the Do not allow users to access the client console from the system tray or Windows Start menu check box.
  5. Click Apply to All Clients.
  6. Restart the OfficeScan client.
The OfficeScan client icon will no longer be loaded on the system tray. However, the OfficeScan services and processes will still be running, except for the pccntmon process. Should there be a need to revert the settings, untick the checkbox in Step 4 and proceed in completing the procedure.

Note: If the pccntmon process is not running, no virus logs will be sent to the server.
