Solution

To run a scan with Trend Micro Smart Surfing for Mac, please follow the steps below:

1.

Open the Trend Micro Smart Surfing program, which will bring up the main console.

If you are not sure how to do this, refer to solution EN-1054392 for instructions.

2.

On the left pane, click Scans.

3.

Select the type of scan you want to run. To learn more about each scan option, refer to the information below:

·

Smart Scan

Select this option if you only want to check the files most likely to contain malware, or malicious software. This type of scan is quicker than a full scan and will generally detect the same malware.

·

Custom Scan

Select this option if you want to check specific files or folders on your Mac. Below are instructions on running a custom scan:

Note: You can also run an immediate scan on a particular file or folder by dragging it onto the Trend Micro Safe Surfing window.

a.

Tick the Custom Scan radio button.

b.

To specify the locations you want to have scanned (for example, a removable drive), do the following:

i.

Click Choose Files or Folders…

ii.

On the window that appears, select the files or folders you want to have scanned, then click Choose.

You will then be taken back to the Scans tab on the main console.

·

Full Scan

Select this option to scan all the files on your Mac. This will generally take longer than other types of scans, but will find any malicious software on your system.

5.

Once you have chosen the type of scan you want to run, click Start Selected Scan.

If you would like to customize a scan before starting it, click Change Settings to open the Preferences window.
