Problem Description

TwinFix is tool for removing malware (malicious software like viruses, spyware, or Trojans) that works with the Virus.txt file, which you may create or which may be created and sent to you by your support engineer. The text file contains the list of malware files you wish to remove.
Note: You do not have to be a user of Trend Micro products to use the TwinFix tool.

Solution

To remove malware using the TwinFix tool, please follow the steps below:
  1. Create a Virus.txt file. Do the following:
    1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
      The Notepad window will appear.
    2. Type the locations and filenames of up to thirty (30) malware files you want to remove.
      Virus.txt file
    3. Type your name on the last line.
    4. Go to File > Save.
    5. Type "Virus.txt" on the File name field.
    6. Select Desktop as the location, then click Save.
  2. Read the License Agreementfor the TwinFix tool.
    Important: Only proceed to the next step if you agree with its terms.
  3. Download the TwinFix.exe file by doing the following:
    1. Close all open programs and windows.
    2. Download the TwinFix.exe file.
    3. Click Save when the File Download window appears.
    4. Select Desktop as the location, then click Save.
  4. Run the TwinFix.exe file by doing either of the following:
    • For Windows XP: Double-click the TwinFix.exe file.
    • For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
      1. Right-click the TwinFix.exe file, then select Run as administrator.
      2. Click Continue.
  5. Click Continue when a message appears that your computer will be restarted once the malware is removed.
    TwinFix will automatically restart your computer
The TwinFix tool will run silently (no window will appear). It will automatically restart your computer once it has removed the malware listed in the Virus.txt file.
