How to use the Trend Micro System Cleaner (SysClean)

Problem:

I want to know how to download and use the Trend Micro System Cleaner to scan my computer for infections from malware (malicious software like viruses and spyware).

 

Note: You do not have to be a user of Trend Micro products to use the System Cleaner. To use the Trend Micro System Cleaner, please follow the instructions below:

 

1. Close all open programs and windows.

2.

Create a System Cleaner folder on your desktop where you can save the files needed to run the application.


To do this, follow the steps below:

 

 

 

a.

Right-click on any free space on your desktop.

 

 

 

 

b.

Select New > Folder from the menu that appears.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

c.

Name the folder “System Cleaner”.

 

 

 

 

 

Note: When typing text into a field, do not include the quotation marks.

 

 

3.

Download Sysclean.exe and save it into the System Cleaner folder you created. Do the following:

 

 

 

a.

Go this location to access the file:

 

 

 

http://solutionfile.trendmicro.com/solutionfile/Sysclean/EN/sysclean.exe

 

 

 

 

b.

When the File Download window appears, click Save. The Save As window will appear.

 

 

 

 

c.

Set the System Cleaner folder as the location for the save.

To do this, click Desktop on the left pane, then double-click System Cleaner on the right pane.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

d.

Click Save.

e.

Wait for the download to complete, and then click Close.

To allow the System Cleaner to automatically download necessary files, start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking by following the steps below:

 

 

 

a.

Turn off your computer.

 

 

 

 

b.

Turn it back on and while the computer is starting up, press the F5 or F8 key repeatedly until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu.

 

 

 

 

c.

Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode with Networking then hit ENTER.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If you are asked to select your operating system in order to start, select the version of Windows you are using and hit ENTER.

 

 

 

 

d.

Use your account to log on to Windows.

 

 

 

 

e.

When a message verifying that you are running Windows in Safe Mode appears, click Yes.

 

 

 

5.

On your desktop, double-click on the System Cleaner folder you saved the files in.

 

 

6.

Double-click Sysclean.exe.

 

 

 

The DOS window will appear.

 

 

7.

Wait while the necessary files are downloaded.

 

 

8.

When the download completes and the Trend Micro System Cleaner window appears, click Scan.

 

 

9.

Wait for the scan to finish, and then close the DOS screen.

 

 

10.

Access the scan results by clicking View Log in the Trend Micro System Cleaner window.

 

 

 

Note: If the System Cleaner window has been closed and you still want to access the scan results, you can open the sysclean.log file indicated in the next step.

 

 

11.

Verify that all infected files were cleaned or removed.

 

 


Note: If the System Cleaner was not able to clean the infected files, you may want to try using the Twin Fix tool.

 

If the log indicates that some infected files remain, send a copy of the sysclean.log file to Trend Micro Technical Support for analysis.

 

 

 

Note: The sysclean.log file can be found in the System Cleaner folder you created on your desktop.
