How do I manually update the virus pattern of my Trend Micro program?

Problem Description

The virus pattern file protects your computer against viruses. You can manually download this if you are experiencing poor Internet connection or using a dial-up.

Solution

Important: We recommend that you print out this document before proceeding because you will be asked to restart your computer during the procedure.

 

To update your Trend Micro program’s virus pattern, please do the following:

 

1.

Download the latest virus pattern file from the Trend Micro Download Center.

 

 

 

a.

Click Consumer OPR from the file list.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You will be redirected to the Consumer OPR download page.

 

 

 

 

b.

Under the Download Package section, click the download icon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

c.

When the File Download window appears, click Save.

 

 

 

 

d.

When the Save As window appears, select Desktop from the left pane and click Save.

 

 

2.

Go to your desktop and extract the file you just downloaded to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security folder.

3.

Restart your computer.

 

 

To check if the pattern file has been successfully updated, do the following:

 

 

1.

Open your Trend Micro program by doing one of the following:

Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your desktop or in your system tray (beside your computer’s clock).

 

 

 

 

·

For Windows XP: Go to Start > All Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Internet Security.

 

 

 

 

·

For Windows Vista or Windows 7: Go to Windows Orb > Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Internet Security.

 

 

 

 

 

Note: You can open Trend Micro Internet Security Pro’s or Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware’s main console by following the same steps. Just replace “Trend Micro Internet Security” with “Trend Micro Internet Security Pro” or with “Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware”.

 

 

2.

Go to Other Settings > Automatic Updates > Settings.

 

 

3.

Click the Component Information tab.

 

 

4.

Look for Virus Scanning Pattern. The version number should match the pattern you have just downloaded.
