Problem Description

Microsoft Windows operating systems run on either 32-bit or 64-bit versions, and many programs have corresponding 32-bit and 64-bit versions to run on either of these. Before you can determine which version of our product you should download, you need to know whether you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

Note: This solution also applies to Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2007, Trend Micro Internet Security for Dell 16.6, and Trend Micro Internet Security Pro for Ameritrade 16.1.

Solution

To determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, please follow the steps below:

1.

Click Start > Run if you are using Windows XP.

2.

Type “msinfo32.exe” then click OK.

3.

On the navigation pane, select System Summary.

4.

Locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Take note of the value.

If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of the Windows operating system.

If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.
