How do I download and install Windows security update MS08-067 to prevent WORM_Downad.KK or Conficker from infecting my computer?

Problem Description

Recent news and media reports have been generated regarding a potential new WORM_Downad (also known as Conficker) threat set to activate on April 1, 2009.

Some symptoms of infection by this worm are the following:

·	Blocked access to antivirus and security websites
·	Spreading of the threat through shared network folders and removable storage devices such as USB drives
·	Inability to log on to Windows user account profiles
·	Shutting off of Windows security updates
·	Killing of security-related tools like those from Sysinternals

This worm exploits the MS08-067 vulnerability from Microsoft; as a precaution, users should apply the corresponding Windows Update MS08-067.

Note: This article applies to all Trend Micro Home and Home Office products and versions.

To install the MS08-067 Windows Update, please do the following:

1.	Select the Windows operating system you are running from the list below to be directed to the Microsoft website:

	·	Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4)
	·	Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
	·	Windows Vista 32-bit with or without Service Pack 1 (SP1)
	·	Windows Vista 64-bit with or without Service Pack 1 (SP1)

2.	Once you are on the Security Update site, click on the Download button.



3.	When the File Download window appears, click Run.



4.	When the Software Update Installation Wizard opens up, click Next to continue.



5.	Read the License Agreement, then select I Agree and click Next.



6.	Wait while the update is applied to your computer.



7.	When you the notification saying the update has been successfully completed appears, click Finish to exit the update installation wizard.
