Exporting System Information needed for technical Support

Problem Description

The system information contains the record of the system configuration. This is very helpful for technical support in checking the customer's system.

Solution

To export the system information:

Microsoft Windows 2003

Microsoft Windows XP

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

Microsoft Windows 98

Microsoft Windows ME

Microsoft Windows Vista

Microsoft Windows 2003

1.

Go to Start > Run

2.

In the Run window, type msinfo32 in the open field.

3.

Click Ok.

or go to Start > All Programs> Accessories > System Tools > System Information

4.

You will see the following in the Microsoft System Information window:

System Summary

+ Hardware Resources

+ Components

+ Software Environment

+ Internet Explorer

5.

Click to highlight System Summary.

6.

Go to File > Save as

7.

Provide a name and save it as a System Information File (*.txt).

Return to the Top

Microsoft Windows XP

1.

Go to Start > Run

2.

In the Run window, type msinfo32 in the open field.

3.

Click Ok.

or go to Start > All Programs> Accessories > System Tools > System Information

4.

You will see the following in the Microsoft System Information window:

System Summary

+ Hardware Resources

+ Components

+ Software Environment

+ Internet Explorer

5.

Click to highlight System Summary.

6.

Go to File > Export

7.

Provide a name and save it as a System Information File (*.txt).

Return to the Top

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

1.

Go to Start > Run

2.

In the Run window, type msinfo32 or winmsd in the open field.

3.

Click Ok.

or go to Start > Programs> Accessories > System Tools > System Information

4.

You will see the following in the Microsoft System Information window:

System Information

System Summary

+ Hardware Resources

+ Components

+ Software Environment

+ Internet Explorer

5.

Click to highlight System Information.

6.

Go to Action > Save as System Information File.

7.

Provide a name and save it as a System Info File (*.txt).

Microsoft Windows 98

1.

Go to Start > Run

2.

In the Run window, type msinfo32 in the open field.

3.

Click Ok.

4.

You will see the following in The Microsoft System Information window:

System Information

+ Hardware Resources

+ Components

+ Software Environment

5.

Click to highlight System Summary.

6.

Go to File > Save as

7.

Provide a name and save it as an MSInfo File (*.txt).

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME)

1.

Go to Start > Run

2.

In the Run window, type msinfo32 in the open field.

3.

Click Ok.

4.

You will see the following in The Help and Support window:

System Information

+ Hardware Resources

+ Components

+ Software Environment

+ Internet Explorer

5.

Click to highlight System Summary.

6.

Go to File > Save as

7.

Provide a name and save it as a System Information File (*.txt).

Microsoft Windows Vista (any Vista version)

1.

Please click the orb on the lower left-side of the your screen

2.

In the Search box, type in “msinfo32” then press Enter.

The Refreshing System Information window will appear.

3.

On the System Information window, click File > Export.

4.

Provide a name and save it as a System Information File (*.txt).

5.

Click on Save.
