Problem:

I want to share my Internet connection to my network using the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) feature of Windows XP. How can I use it with PC-cillin Internet Security 2007?

Solution:

To use ICS with PC-cillin Internet Security, you need to create a Personal Firewall Control Rule that allows DNS requests. Do the following steps on all the computers using PC-cillin Internet Security that will share the Internet connection:

1.

Open the PC-cillin Internet Security main console by doing any of the following:

Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 > Main Console

Double-click the PC-cillin Internet Security icon on the lower right corner of your screen.

2.

Click Personal Network & Firewall Controls on the left panel.

3.

Under Personal Firewall, click Settings.

4.

Make sure that the Activate Personal Firewall checkbox is selected.

5.

Note the Current Firewall Profile indicated at the top of the screen, then select this profile under Personal Firewall Profiles Available.

6.

Click Edit. This opens the Add or Edit Personal Firewall Profile window.

7.

Click the Network Control tab.

8.

Click Add. This opens the Add or Edit Personal Firewall Rule window.

9.

Create a new rule with the following settings:

Name of network control rule: Domain Name Service
Connection: Incoming
Action: Allow
Protocol Type: TCP/UDP
Specified port(s): 53
IP Setting Type: All IP addresses

10.

Click OK three times.

11.

Close the PC-cillin Internet Security main console.

12.

Connect to the Internet then check if ICS is now working on all the computers.

By default, outgoing DNS requests are allowed in the four preset Personal Firewall Profiles (Direct Internet connection, Home network, Office network, and Wireless network) so you only need to add the rule above to allow incoming DNS requests.

If you are still unable to share your Internet connection, contact Trend Micro Consumer Support.

Note: This procedure applies only to the Internet Connection Sharing feature of Windows XP. If you are using a different application that shares your Internet connection, refer to the program's documentation or contact the manufacturer's technical support.
