Problem:

I have upgraded my Trend Micro Internet Security Pro, Trend Micro Internet Security, or Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware, but it still shows my old serial number. How do I replace the old serial number with the new one without reinstalling my program?

You can change your serial number using either your Trend Micro program’s main console or the Windows Registry Editor. Please follow the instructions below:

Change Your Serial Number Using the Main Console

1.

Open your Trend Micro Home and Home Office product’s main console.

If you cannot open the main console, change your serial number using the Registry Editor. Otherwise, go to the next step.

2.

On the left pane, click Other Settings, and on the right pane, click Subscription to expand this section of the pane.

3.

Under Subscription, click Change Serial Number.

Note: If this button is not available and you instead see “More Details” and “Buy Now” on the pane, update your product to make sure you have the latest version of the software. After updating, return to the Subscription section.

If you cannot access the Change Serial Number window, change your serial number using the Registry Editor. Otherwise, go to the next step.

4.

Type your new serial number into the fields provided, then click Next.

5.

Type in all required information, then click on Next. A Registration Successful! message will appear after the process has completed, and a registration confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address.

If the old serial number is still in the Subscription section, click on the Overview tab and verify that the expiration date has been changed.

If your expiration date has not been changed, refer to the following solution:

The expiry date for my Trend Micro Home and Home Office product was not updated after I renewed my subscription

Once you verify that your expiration date has been extended, return to the Subscription section.

Your new serial number is displayed.

Change Your Serial Number Using the Windows Registry Editor

Important: Editing your computer's registry can cause serious errors on your computer. Always create a backup before making any changes. If you need assistance, you can view the Help file by clicking Help > Help Topics on the Registry Editor window. You can also contact Trend Micro Technical Support.

1.

Close all open programs, including your Trend Micro Home and Home Office program.

Note: If you are using the 2009 or 2010 product versions, you must first disable your Trend Micro program by right-clicking on the Trend Micro icon  in your system tray and click Exit.

2.

Click Start > Run.

3.

Type “regedit” into the Open field, then click OK. The Registry Editor window will appear.

4.

On the Registry Editor window, click the + sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to expand the folder.

4.

Click on the + sign beside SOFTWARE to expand the folder.

5.

Under SOFTWARE, look for the TrendMicro folder and click on the + sign beside it.

Under Trend Micro, click PC-cillin (the folder, not the + sign).

7.

On the list in the right pane, look for SerialNumber. Right-click on it, then select Modify. This will open up the Edit String window.

8.

Type your serial number into the Value data field.

Note: Make sure to type in your serial number with all capital letters and dashes between every sequence of four characters. For example: ABCD-1234-5678-9100-1234.

9.

Double-check the serial number, then click OK. This will bring you back to the Registry Editor window.
